Brian Madden : Je suis consultant et analyste depuis près de 30 ans et j’aime comprendre l’utilisation pratique de la technologie et partager mes connaissances en démystifiant et en expliquant des concepts complexes à un public plus large. I’ve been a consultant and analyst for nearly 30 years, and I love understanding the practical use of technology and sharing knowledge by demystifying and explaining complex concepts for a wider audience. To that end, I’ve written 6 books about EUC, created an independent technical conference called “BriForum”, created a website called BrianMadden.com for EUC technical analysis where I wrote over 2 000 articles over 15 years, and I have traveled the world giving over 1 000 technical talks.
Vincent Branger : Nous nous sommes rencontrés la première fois lors de la première conférence en Europe de BriForum, conférence créée par Brian lui-même, à Darmstadt en 2006. Notre tout premier échange a été lors d’un quiz organisé par Brian à cette occasion… Il demandait à l’assistance quelle était le nom de la société française ayant participé au projet NT4 Terminal Server Edition avec Citrix. En tant que seul français présent et ayant travaillé pour cette société, j’étais le seul à répondre (pour information, la réponse est Prologue Software !) Je me rappelle aussi que Brian s’était gentiment moqué de mon accent français lors de la prononciation de la société… 😉 J’ai participé à tous les Briforum et suis même intervenu à plusieurs reprises en tant que speaker. Brian et moi avons beaucoup de points communs d’un point de vue professionnel et notamment une vision partagée sur beaucoup de sujets.
We first met at the first BriForum conference in Europe, an event created by Brian himself, in Darmstadt in 2006. Our very first interaction was during a quiz organized by Brian at the event. He asked the audience the name of the French company that contributed to the NT4 Terminal Server Edition project with Citrix. Being the only French person present and having worked for that company, I was the only one to answer (for your information, the answer is Prologue Software!). I also remember Brian playfully teasing me about my French accent when I pronounced the company’s name. 😉 I attended all the BriForums and even spoke at several as a speaker. Brian and I share many professional values, including a similar vision on many topics.

Brian Madden : J’ai été à la fois indépendant et entrepreneur toute ma vie. J’ai créé ma première entreprise à 16 ans (principalement en installant des réseaux informatiques pour des petites entreprises), dans l’État de l’Ohio aux États-Unis. J’ai découvert la technologie informatique sur serveur (SBC) Citrix alors que je travaillais dans une société de conseil en 1998 et j’ai trouvé cela incroyable. J’ai plongé dans ce domaine, écrivant finalement une série de livres sur Citrix et les services Terminal Server, puis créant le site Web BrianMadden.com dédié à cette technologie, puis créant la série de conférences BriForum et une masterclass pour les ingénieurs Citrix.
Au début du SBC, le domaine était restreint et il n’y avait pas beaucoup d’experts dans le monde. Au fil des années, les livres que j’ai écrits et les sujets que nous avons abordés sur BrianMadden.com et BriForum se sont également développés. En cours de route, j’ai fondé ma propre société d’analystes industriels qui gérait la conférence, le site Web, les cours de formation, les DVD de formation, l’édition de livres, les projets de conseil et de recherche, les allocutions en public, etc. En 2008, mon entreprise a été rachetée par TechTarget, une société mondiale de médias et d’analystes, où je suis resté jusqu’en 2016. Après cela, je suis allé chez VMware, travaillant en tant que Consultant technique de renom dans leur bureau EUC du CTO. C’était un poste amusant et stimulant qui m’a permis de faire de la gestion de produits, du marketing et de la stratégie produit et de nombreux voyages à travers le monde pour rencontrer des partenaires et des clients. J’ai vraiment apprécié cela et j’ai découvert comment les produits et services logiciels des grandes entreprises sont construits de l’intérieur, tout en partageant tout ce que j’ai appris avec le plus grand nombre de personnes possible.
J’ai quitté VMware en 2022, la même année où OpenAI a rendu ChatGPT public. Lorsque j’ai utilisé ChatGPT pour la première fois, j’ai immédiatement cru que j’étais témoin de la nouvelle technologie la plus puissante de ma carrière et j’ai immédiatement commencé à réfléchir à son impact sur les entreprises et l’avenir du travail. Cela m’a rappelé les débuts du VDI ou du cloud : une nouvelle technologie puissante dont tout le monde pensait qu’elle serait énorme, mais personne ne savait exactement comment tout cela finirait. Je me suis plongé dans les différentes technologies d’IA, en étudiant et en apprenant autant que possible, et en essayant de comprendre comment les entreprises pourraient les adopter.
Par hasard, ma compagne et moi avons visité Paris pendant six semaines début 2023 au moment même où je plongeais dans le nouveau monde de l’IA. J’ai été étonné par l’ampleur de l’activité de l’IA dans la ville ! Autant de startups, de rencontres et de conférences. Il y avait quelque chose à faire tous les soirs et la ville était pleine d’activités autour de l’IA ! Après notre retour aux États-Unis, nous avons pris la grande décision de déménager à Paris (parce que c’est une ville géniale, pas seulement à cause de l’IA), mais à Paris, je pourrais continuer à étudier l’IA et aider les entreprises clientes à comprendre comment l’intégrer. sur leurs lieux de travail. Et bien sûr, j’ai eu envie de continuer à partager ce que j’ai appris, en termes d’écriture, de formation, de prise de parole, etc.terms of writing, training, speaking, etc.

I have been both independent and entrepreneurial my entire life. I started my first company at age 16 (mostly installing computer networks for small businesses), in the state of Ohio in the USA. I learned about Citrix server-based computing (SBC) technology while working at a consulting firm in 1998 and thought it was amazing. I dove deep into that field, ultimately writing a series of books about Citrix and Terminal Services, then creating the BrianMadden.com website dedicated to that technology, and then creating the BriForum conference series and a master class for Citrix engineers.
In those early days of SBC, the field was small and there were not too many experts in the world. So those of us who loved that technology really figured it out together and exchanged a lot of knowledge. That had a big impact on my early career, and I continued to “play it forward” and share everything I learned with as many people as possible. That’s what led me to write books, blogs, podcasts, create training classes and BriForum, etc., and it’s been an important part of my career ever since.
Over time, the server-based computing field grew to include virtualization and VDI, and then enterprise mobility, the consumerization of IT, and the future of work. Over the years, the books I wrote and the topics we covered on BrianMadden.com and BriForum expanded as well. All of this became known as end user computing (EUC) and ultimately today as the digital workspace (DWP).
Along the way, I founded my own boutique industry analyst firm which managed the conference, the website, training classes, training DVDs, book publishing, consulting & research projects, public speaking engagements, etc. In 2008, my company was acquired by TechTarget, a global media & analyst firm, where I stayed through 2016. After that I went to VMware, working as a distinguished technology in their EUC Office of the CTO. That was a fun and challenging position which allowed me to do some product management, product marketing, product strategy, and lots of traveling around the world meeting partners and customers. I really enjoyed it and learning about how big enterprise software products and services are built from the inside, all while sharing everything I learned with as many people as possible.
I left VMware in 2022 which is the same year OpenAI released ChatGPT to the public. When I first used ChatGPT, I instantly believed I was witnessing the most powerful new technology of my career, and immediately began thinking about how it would impact enterprises and the future of work. It reminded me of the early days of VDI or the cloud: powerful new technology that everyone felt would be huge, but no one knew exactly how it would all end up. I dove into the various AI technologies, studying and learning as much as I could, and trying to understand how enterprises could adopt it.
By random chance, my partner and I visited Paris for six weeks in early 2023 just as I was diving into the new world of AI. I was amazed by how much AI activity there was in the city! So many startups, meetups, and conferences. There was something to do every night, and the city was alive with activity around AI! After returning to the US, we made the big decision that we would move to Paris, (because it’s an awesome city, not just because of AI), but in Paris I could continue to Study AI and help enterprise customers figure out how to integrate it into their workplaces. And of course, I wanted to continue to share what I learned, in terms of writing, training, speaking, etc.
Vincent Branger : Tout d’abord, j’aimerais revenir sur l’idée de notre collaboration. Brian m’a prévenu de sa volonté de déménager à Paris en août dernier. Après la surprise initiale, j’ai tout de suite compris les raisons de son déménagement quant à la dimension professionnelle autour de l’IA. Dans les premières semaines, je l’ai aidé dans ses différentes démarches et plus j’avançais avec lui, plus il me semblait évident qu’ILKI pouvait répondre à son projet professionnel ! Pourquoi ? Parce que depuis que nous nous connaissons, nous avons toujours partagé les mêmes valeurs professionnelles : indépendance, partage et expertise, qui sont les valeurs mêmes d’ILKI. Nous avons alors échangé avec les associés d’ILKI et nous sommes très vite arrivés à la conclusion !
Brian nous rejoint en tant que AI Tech Lead. Le tech Lead a un rôle crucial dans le développement et l’amélioration continue des offres de services que propose ILKI. Il travaille sur toutes les dimensions de son offre : technique, veille, commercial, avant-vente, communication, recrutement et bien sûr les projets en tant que tels. Or, sur tous ces points, Brian dispose de superbes compétences !
Firstly, I would like to come back to the idea of our collaboration. Brian informed me of his intention to move to Paris last August. After the initial surprise, I immediately understood the professional reasons behind his move, especially in terms of AI. In the first few weeks, I helped him with various procedures, and the more I worked with him, the clearer it became that ILKI could fulfill his professional project! Why? Because ever since we’ve known each other, we have always shared the same professional values: independence, sharing, and expertise, which are also Ilki’s core values. We then discussed this with ILKI’s partners and quickly came to a conclusion!
Brian is joining us as an AI Tech Lead. The Tech Lead plays a crucial role in the development and continuous improvement of the services offered by ILKI. He works on all aspects of his offering: technical, watch, sales, pre-sales, communication, recruitment, and of course the projects themselves. And, in all these areas, Brian has superb skills!

Les premiers mois seront des mois de construction autour de l’IA mais aussi de projets internationaux sur son autre domaine d’expertise, le Digital Workplace et par conséquent, sa montée en compétences en français pourra se faire de manière progressive.
Brian has a huge capacity for work and learning. I am convinced that he will quickly develop his skills in the French language. S’installer à Paris n’est pas seulement un dépaysement pour moi, c’est un saut dans un environnement technologique IA dynamique et innovant, des startups à la recherche, et je suis ravi de m’y immerger.
